Message :Well, I was afraid something like this was going to happen sooner or later. And as luck would have it, moving back to CA has left me more at risk of having my car being attacked by some lowlife vandal. I can’t believe something like this was done to my car -I’m completely stunned. If I ever track down the responsible party, they’ll pay…BIG TIME.
:Here’s what it looked like before the attack.
:
:And here’s what it looks like now.

:I guess I should have kept my big mouth shut pt3
:Good thing I’ve got a back up car to drive so I can avoid the embarrassment of driving around with JSPECs on my car. :-P
:
:On a more upbeat note. :-P A lot has happened since moving back to CA. Aside from a dismal housing market (anyone want to buy a house in central MA? 4 bedrooms, 4.5 acres, and a 4 car heated garage with a lift :-D), I loaded up my Z on a rented U-haul trailer and with the help of my Dad and Boomer (my dog) we drove cross country.
:Dude....we've passed thousands of trees and you haven't stopped once to let me relieve myself. I NEED TO GO!!!
:
:Despite the high gas prices and averaging about 13 mpg (towing a trailer), I couldn’t think of a better way to spend time with one’s father. My only regret is that we didn’t have more time to spend taking in the sights, although we did a pretty good job of snapping pictures of interest on the fly (at 80 mph). We stopped in NoVA to buy Z stuff from Bernie (I thought I was immune to his persuasive selling powers, but I was wrong – yes I bought an OD pulley). Bernie – my dad still asks how you’re doing and was very impressed with your thorough knowledge of all things Z-related. ?
:After staying overnight in NoVA, we headed west and made it to CA 2 ½ days later. When on the road during that length of time, the topic of discussion varied quite a bit but I guess one thing stuck for my dad and ultimately surfaced about a month after we got to CA. Shortly after the 350Z came out, my dad kept mentioning to me that he was considering getting one. For him, I thought it would be a good choice but I wouldn’t be a die-hard tt.net person if I didn’t say “You should look at a Twin Turbo”. I did my obligatory duty of pointing out the obvious advantages of a Z32 over a Z33 but didn’t oversell the issue. Just plant the seed, water it and let nature do the rest. Not thinking he was taking my suggestion seriously, I pretty much figured he was sold on a 350Z and thought: “Well, it’s still a Z (in theory). Then last June - out of the blue, he shot me some eBay ads for TT’s and asked for my opinion of them. And so the hook was set. ;-)
:I guess seeing this in your rear view mirror can be an influential image:
:
:I thought a stock TT would be best for his needs and that’s where I concentrated the search. As with anyone who’s been looking for a TT, it’s a pretty tall order to find a pristine car. To further cement the deal for my dad, I offered to let him drive my TT while I was away on a business trip. Naturally, he liked it a lot and from that point forward it was a safe bet that buying a 350Z would no longer be an option for him. I was looking high and low for some good candidates for my dad to consider. While I tried to concentrate on local cars, I didn’t let distance be a driving factor. And then fate stepped up and served up one of those “too good to pass up” opportunities.
:For any of the vets around here, you remember trackstar. When he still owned his TT, he used to bring to me for work and I always thought it was one of the best examples of a pristine TT in the New England area. I was saddened when he sold it – mostly because I didn’t have a justifiable reason to spend money on another TT. But I was sad to see such a nice car leave the area. He sold it to a person in OH. A very nice guy named Scott who occasionally posted on the forum (screen name: Urb). And so this is where fate comes in: one day, I happened upon an ad in the TT.net classifieds for a ’93 TT. To my utter disbelief, there was Scott selling the TT he bought from trackstar just two short years earlier. I immediately forwarded the ad to my father and told him if he was serious about getting a TT, that this is THE car to get. Not only is it low mileage and in fantastic condition, but it’s a car that I’ve worked on and can readily vouch for its history.
:In no time, my dad contacted Scott and they sealed the deal. The transaction went very smoothly and Scott was a fantastic person to deal with. While my dad debated on flying out and driving the car back to CA, he settled on having it transported out. Unfortunately, I was back in MA packing up the last of my house and getting ready for my second cross country drive (driving out our other car, a horse trailer packed with more of our belongings, and my wife and kids – “so they packed up their things and moved to Bev-er-ley…Hills that is…” well not exactly but you get the point). So I wasn’t able to be there when the car arrived but he and my mom got lots of pictures of it – my dad was like a kid at Christmas. ?

:His first modification was to get a set of 350Z AE wheels. In fact he bought the wheels and had them delivered before the car arrived (thanks again Brad!).
:So…there’s now two red TT’s in my extended family. And the irony of the situation is that my 71 year old father has a car that’s nicely suited to track events (“hey Dad!! Want to switch cars one weekend? ;-P).
:Got brakes?
:
:I finally had a chance to have a mini-cruise with him last Sunday (I haven’t driven my car in weeks) and we both enjoyed it immensely. I’m now looking to get him to a track event so he can fully appreciate the car’s potential for fun. Unfortunately, I only had one camera with us which my son used as he was riding with my dad – so the only pic I have from that day was one of me (at least it proves that I’m still driving it)
:
:
:Dad: Here’s to many happy (and enjoyable) miles with your TT. I’ll never forget being a young boy and wanting a 240Z just like yours (I ultimately got that car). Your influence was not overwhelming nor overbearing, but seeing how you enjoyed the car had a lasting impression on me. I can’t describe the feelings of happiness in knowing that I was able to return the favor all these years later and being able to share the fun of owning and driving a TT. Now about that upcoming track day….wanna trade cars? :-P
:
:
:Oh…and I’m thinking it’s time for me to have a Z-related sig pic. I’m thinking of cleaning this up and using it:

:Thanks for reading folks. I hope you enjoyed it.
:Dave
